I make a lot of commercials. I write a lot of them, I voice a lot of them, and sometimes old ones are brought back. And sometimes I forget that I did them, and they make me laugh. That’s not a sign of their quality, it’s just an indicator that the same silly things make me laugh year after year after year.
In today’s case, we have exhumed some Bloedorn Lumber commercials Bob S. Bestos and I did for their Spartans Baseball sponsorship. Since these aired only on KCOW, we included Bob’s pet pig Hot Dog. (We don’t usually do that because Bloedorn’s ads frequently run on radio stations other than KCOW, where Bob is most well known…notorious maybe.)
Since these ads were going to run all summer long I reached into my bag of tricks and pulled out the old “multiple endings” gambit. It’s the same commercial but with three different endings that rotate equally. Like the movie “Clue”, if you have nostalgia for that, which…whatever floats your boat. But my true inspiration are these guys:
Note that the different endings are just for fun; we also do commercials sometimes that have tags with different copy points. These different endings are just nonsense. But that’s our general policy with Bloedorn Lumber. Fun and nonsense with a sales message snuck in.
So here they are, our three Spartans Baseball spots, back again:
