“Scare On The Air” is one of the handful of “internet radio shows” (there’s too much production involved to call them podcasts) written and produced by Dangerous Dave Kuskie and me. The concept: Doc and Dave host a series which airs “old time radio” thrillers from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Except the thrillers are spoofs written and produced by us, and made to resemble vintage radio broadcasts.
We have done a lot of these shows (Golden Girls Radio, Sandhills Jubilee, Dog and Pony Show, etc.) at Christmas breaktime, because that’s when Dave has been home (and more recently when our friend Jeremy Fifield has been home). So when we recorded this episode, I had just flown back from visiting the family–and, as happens more than I’d like, I caught a nasty cold somewhere along the way. So all of my characters sound like they have a cold. In retrospect I wish I had included some kind of reference to that…if something is going to stick out you might as well reference it.
The episode, which I wrote as a 1950’s attempt to pull a “War Of The Worlds”-style hoax, features Dave and me as the comedy team Wallace and Davis. (A tip of the hat to my favorite holiday movie, “White Christmas.”) Name aside, they’re Abbott and Costello. The episode also features Jeremy Fifield as a Chicago news broadcaster, Kalin Krohe (doing a voice that kills me every time I hear it) as “Stinky Pants”, and Mike Glesinger as Art Linkletter. (Mike is kind of the Art Linkletter of Alliance!)
Here’s the show: Listen and be (as the case may be) amused and/or bemused.
