Dreams are weird.
It’s like “NBC’s Monday Night At Wenty’s Brain”. I get to see a little movie concocted by my subconscious mind, and then maybe I get to wake up and remember it.
I’ve written before about my long illness in 2023 that produced absolutely bonkers illusions, fever dreams, ICU PTSD, or whatever you wanna call it. The truth is, I have a pretty potent imagination. That’s why, while my body was a sickened lump, I thought Kalin was flying a plane with me and all of his musician friends on it. (He wasn’t.) Or why I thought some New York-based family friends of ours came to Colorado to visit me when I was in the hospital. (They didn’t.) Or why I saw an episode of “Family Feud” where the entire studio was overcome by ghouls and demons. (I’m pretty sure that never happened on “Family Feud”. “Match Game ’74”. possibly.)
So, here are my two dreams. They’re not as weird as the hospital dreams. But bizarre nonetheless. Here’s the first dream.
It’s an ordinary day at the radio station. But things get interesting when my boss informs me that I have won an award from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association. A major award. (“A Christmas Story”, we salute you.) Like lifetime achivement or something. Just as I am glowing in the pride of this award, water begins to leak through the ceiling of the radio station. Like a sprinkler or something. Then the water causes some kind of electrical spark, which causes a fire. At least, that’s what I think happened. It’s fuzzy at the end.
I think the substance of this dream is the fact that when something good happens to me, I feel worried that something bad is going to happen to me. And two really good things have happened to me in the last couple of months. Perhaps there’s more to it.
The second dream is really fuzzy. I’m holding a party for my friends. (The place I am holding this party is not my apartment or any other place I’ve lived.) There are people there…maybe one or two of them are my friends. And my grandmother is there. And people I don’t know. Just random weirdness.
If you have any suggestions as to what either of these dreams are trying to tell me, by all means, hit me up in the comments.
If it helps, here’s a quick rundown of actual, 100% real dreams I have had.
-KCOW is sold to Japanese interests
-I am late for a bus that will take me to Denver, because I stayed up watching the “Phantom Of The Opera” movie. And when I do get on the bus everyone on it but me is dressed like “Phantom Of The Opera” characters.
-I am doing a remote at Alliance Aiport and some horrible piece of news is announced and everyone leaves the airport immediately, leaving me stranded there.
-A former co-worker has accompanied me to my wedding…in Japan. And I am furious because this former co-worker charged a bunch of room service to my Dad’s credit card.
(If there is some explanation for this last one, I don’t want to hear it.)
